So – what’s happening in the Edinburgh beer scene over the next seven days?

Monday 27th 8:00pm
Stouts and Porters at Appellation CB
Appellation Wines Comely Bank, Comely Bank Rd
Appellation Wines website tickets £10

Monday’s tasting at Appellation (Comely Bank) involves dark beers from around the world. Six examples of what I once heard proprietor Ash refer to as ‘Pouts and Storters’ will be on offer (in fairness, we were judging them at a SIBA competition and had both seen plenty by that point). Head down to sunny Stockbridge and soak up six of the best dark beers.

Wednesday 29th [7:30pm]
Meet the Brewer – Redwillow
The Hanging Bat, 133 Lothian Rd
Further Information Tickets £20

Toby McKenzie is one heck of a talented brewer, and on Wednesday he returns to Edinburgh for the latest in the Hanging Bat’s series of MtB events. Last year, Toby spoke about his Redwillow beers at the Caley Sample Room, and anyone who was there (indeed anybody who has sampled one at some stage) will know what to expect this week. If not (and Redwillow are completely new to you), with twenty beers on offer, you’ll find something great. From bitters and amber ales to imperial stouts, few English brewers are as prolific, yet consistently brilliant.

Wednesday 29th
Tap Takeover – Hand Drawn Monkey Brewing Co
The Bow Bar, 80 West Bow
Further details / Hand Drawn Monkey Twitter

Wednesday is shaping up to be a great night for beer in Edinburgh, as a quick down-and-up wander through the Grassmarket from the Hanging Bat leads to the Bow Bar, who are having their own event on the 29th. On offer – a mini tap-takeover from Huddersfield’s Hand Drawn Monkey Brewing Company, featuring four of their beers (plus two from Redwillow, so their fans are in for a treat this week). Head on down for HDM’s heavily hopped beers, such as the 5.2% dry-Chinook’ed ‘Chopper’ – and, also, the opportunity to produce your own hand-drawn monkeys…

Friday 31st [to Monday 3rd]
Blue Goose Beer Festival
The Blue Goose, 27 Lanark Road

Website / Facebook Page

The early May bank holiday weekend was to have seen the annual Blue Goose Beer Festival – but it was postponed, and is now taking place over this late May bank holiday instead. Last year’s debut festival was a huge success, with live music and BBQ food. Hopefully the weather will hold and the riverside beer garden will be in full operation this time around, as well. When the sun’s out, there are few better beer gardens in the entire city…

[NB – there is still some uncertainty as to whether the festival will be going ahead, it may be best to check with the Blue Goose directly]

The Edinburgh Beer Weekly will be published every Sunday here on the BeerCast. If you have an event in or around the city that you’d like to feature – please get in touch at the usual email address. Cheers!
