Following on from the last Beer Weekly, there are three festivals ongoing across Edinburgh. The Nicholson’s Autumn Beer Festival carries on, with sixty beers on offer throughout the next three weeks. Head down to the Kenilworth, Mitre, Conan Doyle, Greyfriars Bobby’s, Deacon Brodies or the Haymarket Bar (or a combination of them), to get with the festival spirit. Meanwhile, at the many ‘spoons locations around the city, the JD Wetherspoon Autumn Festival continues apace – and the Guildford Arms is the place to be until Sunday, as they are in the second week of their Cumbrian and North Yorkshire beer festival.

Monday 29th [to Wednesday 31st]
Pumpkin Carving Competition Holyrood 9A, Holyrood Road
Further details

There’s still time to get creative with the vegetable of the season, as the Holyrood 9A are accepting entries for their Pumpkin carving competition. The final will be judged on Wednesday at 8pm – the winning entry will receive vouchers for two beers and burgers. Alongside the judging, Stewart Brewing’s Pumpkin Ale will be on offer. Even if you don’t come out on top, the first fifty pumpkins that are entered will earn the carver a free pint of Williams beer. Sharpen those carving knives and get to it, Edinburgh!

Thursday 1st
Meet the Brewer – Steve Innocente Salisbury Arms, 58 Dalkeith Rd
Innocente Brewing Co Facebook page

On Thursday, as the Nicholson’s festival continues at the Salisbury Arms, there will also be a meet the brewer event taking place. Steve Innocente – the IBU-loving Canadian behind one of Scotland’s newest contract breweries (Innocente Brewing Co), will be taking questions and discussing his love of hops, how it feels to launch his own beers, and the pros and cons of the cuckoo brewing process. Head on down for a chat, and also to sample his new beer – ‘Mistake’ – which, I’m guessing, has a story behind it.

Sunday 4th [to Friday 9th]
Brewsters at Holyrood 9A Holyrood 9A, Holyrood Road
Further details

Starting on Sunday, one of Edinburgh’s most successful bars will be hosting a six-day festival dedicated to the women involved in the modern beer industry. The Holyrood 9A – itself run by an all-female management team – will be featuring beers produced by ten breweries who similarly have women in charge. The event builds up to Wednesday, where many of the brewsters themselves will be in attendance for a special event hosted by Melissa Cole – but more on that in next week’s Edinburgh Beer Weekly. Until then, head down on Sunday for the first of the beers on offer!

The Edinburgh Beer Weekly will be published every Sunday (or Monday, as on this week) here on the BeerCast. If you have an event in or around the city that you’d like to feature – please get in touch at the usual email address. Cheers!
