Valentine’s Week begins with a themed tasting at Appellation Wines. Just you and Ash, two place settings, and lots of diffused light and tinkling music. Or, it could be the best beers to pair with desserts, decadent honey or chocolate beers, and just generally some interesting things to pair with whatever you’re cooking for that special person on Friday.

Valentine’s week continues, and romantic types can fill their boots at the Holyrood 9A. Head down with your significant other and enjoy their romantic dinner offer for beer lovers. For the sum of £50, you receive nibbles, two burgers of your choice, two desserts – all paired with specially selected beers. It sounds like the perfect evening for that special beer fan in your life – and if you really love them, feel free to treat them more than once – the offer runs until Sunday.

On Thursday, Stewart Brewing are hosting one of their semi-regular brewery tour evenings, but this one with a slight twist. The excellent Leith-based magazine Hot Rum Cow are making their very own beer, and if you head along to Stewarts’ HQ, you can have a chance to influence what they make. Head along for a chance to see round the new brewery, talk to the Stewart and Hot Rum Cow teams, and also drink a few beers, eat snacks, and try the trial batches. It should be a great night – tickets are first come, first served, so either call the number above, or email sales@stewartbrewing.co.uk

Great Heck Showcase

Also on Thursday (and continuing all weekend) – the Guildford Arms will be featuring beers by the excellent Yorkshire brewery Great Heck. Expect the beers to fly out, particularly as they are being served at £2.50 a pint. On the bar – Powermouse, Citra, Simcoe, and Stormin Norman. Great Heck have plenty of fans in their ale-loving heartland – head down to the Guildford to see what the hype is all about.
