Sunday 1st
Stewart Brewing’s Advent Calendar

Further Details / Stewart Brewing Twitter feed
Today (Sunday) is the first day of Advent, and to get everyone in the Christmas spirit, Stewart Brewing are launching a daily competition for their many fans. In a nutshell, once per day, using one of their social media strands, the brewery will be giving away a mixed case of beer – available to be collected from either the brewery or one of the Bow Bar, Cloisters or Stockbridge Tap (for full details, check the link above). Keep an eye out for the hashtag #EdinburghcraftventCalendar (you’ll hardly miss it). For those who don’t get down with social media, the first person to turn up at Stewarts’ shop on Monday, Friday or Saturday, quoting the word ‘Advent’ will win the prize and can metaphorically stick two fingers up at technology.
Monday 2nd 8:00pm
Craig’s Christmas Wishlist at Appellation
Appellation Wines, 43 Dalry Road
Appellation Wines website tickets £10
Appellation Wines are going all-out this week, with three beer-related events taking place (well, two and one that has beer involved). Firstly, on Monday night, Craig from Appellation will be taking people through his Christmas Wishlist. Once he’s done talking about Furbees and One Direction perfumes, some beers may or may not be opened.
Tuesday 3rd 8:00pm
Beers for Christmas Day at Appellation CB
Appellation Wines, 43 Dalry Road
Appellation Wines website tickets £10
The very next night after the Dalry Road tasting, on Tuesday Appellation are at it again, this time with the best selection of beers they can think of to sip on Christmas Day. It’s only three and a bit weeks away, so this could be the perfect chance to pick something to go with your festive celebrations other than wine, whisky or any other tippled you can shake a bottle-opener at.
Wednesday 4th 6:30pm
Cheese and Dessert pairings with Innis & Gunn
Jeremiah’s Taproom, Elm Row
Jeremiah’s Taproom Twitter feed tickets £12 (phone 0131 5568201 to book)
Elm Row’s newest bar, Jeremiah’s Taproom, opened back in August, and has been steadily building itself a following. On Wednesday, they hold one of their first events, an evening of pairing both cheese and dessert with the beers of Innis & Gunn (presumably not all at the same time). Call the number above for tickets, each of which gets you six beers and associated food, with the cheese provided by Edinburgh standouts Mellis’s.
Thursday 5th 6:00pm-8:00pm
Cheese pairing with Duvel
The Fountain, 131 Dundee St
The Fountain Twitter feed / Duvel Twitter feed (UK)
Dairy fans are certainly in for a treat this week, as the washed cheese rind will barely be dry following the event at Jeremiah’s Taproom before another occurs on the next evening, in Fountainbridge. The Fountain are hosting the beers of Belgian giant Duvel, and they are also bringing some cheese with them to suggest pairings. Head along to the Fountain between six and eight, and find out what goes best with their distinctive beers.
Saturday 7th 2:00pm-5:00pm
Appellation Wines Portfolio Tasting
Grange Cricket Club, Stockbridge
Appellation Wines website tickets £20
Rounding off the week, and the events featuring Appellation Wines, on Saturday Dalry/Comely Bank’s finest are hosting their third annual portfolio tasting (aka off-site boozeup). A ‘super-tasting’, the afternoon will showcase plenty of the grape-based products – but also a lot of beer. Several Scottish brewers will be in attendance, showing their bottled ranges. As Ash and Erica state – what better way to spend a dark December afternoon, and pick out your Christmas drinks…
The Edinburgh Beer Weekly will be published every Sunday here on the BeerCast. If you have an event in or around the city that you’d like to feature – please get in touch at the usual email address. Cheers!
