So – what’s happening in the Edinburgh beer scene over the next seven days?
Monday 30th 7:00pm
Vintage pub quiz with Hardeep Singh Kohli
Vintage, 60 Henderson St Tickets: 0131 563 5293, £25 per head (teams 3-6 people)
To start the week, head down to Leith for the running of the monthly pub quiz at Edinburgh’s best new bar/restaurant (there, I said it) – The Vintage. It’s an evening with a difference, though – pints of Carling and ‘Guess the 80’s hits’ it won’t be (although dancing may be involved, if the quiz ends in a tie). Hosted by Hardeep Singh Kohli, expect the best beer the Vintage stocks, a two-course curry dinner designed by Hardeep, and the aforementioned quiz, with prizes for the winners. Tickets are £25, phone the number above to book a table.
Monday 30th 8:00pm
Oktoberfest beers at Appellation CB
Appellation Wines, 43 Dalry Road
Appellation Wines website tickets £10
On the same night, the Comely Bank branch of Appellation Wines plays host to a tasting of six beers recently spirited from over the North Sea; Oktoberfest is upon us once again. Let Ash and the team guide you through the wonders of Teutonic beer, as enjoyed across Germany. Will Ash be wearing his lederhosen again? Who can say?
Tuesday 1st 7:00pm
Oktoberfest beer and food matching
Vintage, 60 Henderson St Tickets £15
German flavours of the season will also be in evidence this week at the second event to take place at the Vintage. On Tuesday, traditional German fare will be matched to a range of Oktoberfest beers, and if you’ve any experience of the Vintage, I’m sure you can imagine how good the charcuterie will be on the night.
Tuesday 1st
Rainbow IPA Night
The Hanging Bat, 133 Lothian Rd
Further Information
Following on from last week’s Hanging Bat Meet the Brewer event, the good folks at Siren have left behind some extremely special beers for the people of Edinburgh. Their Rainbow IPA project is a collaboration involving some of the most exciting breweries in the UK at the moment – with each participant being given a colour and tasked with producing a beer themed around it. The breweries and colours are as follows:-
Red > Siren
Orange > Partizan
Yellow > Buxton
Green > Brodies
Blue > Magic Rock
Indigo > The Kernel
Violet > Hawkshead
Head along to the Hanging Bat on the 1st of October to try them, as yet each is a massive unknown – other than the fact that they are bound to be creative and highly interesting…
The Edinburgh Beer Weekly will be published every Sunday here on the BeerCast. If you have an event in or around the city that you’d like to feature – please get in touch at the usual email address. Cheers!
