So – what’s happening in the Edinburgh beer scene over the next seven days?

Monday 26th 8:00pm
Beer and wood at Appellation Wines
Appellation Wines, 43 Dalry Road
Appellation Wines website tickets £10

Stop tittering at the back. Beer and wood is a legitimate thing; brewers have been ageing their wares in barrels for a long, long time. Back in the day, it was all they had, of course, but now experimental beer-makers are changing the flavours of their beers dramatically by leaving them in ex-whisky, sherry, port barrels. Head along to Appellation and find six of the best wood-aged beers Ash and the team have to offer. If you’d like to know more about whisky-barrel aged beers, why not (cough) head to this (ahem) article in Hot Rum Cow?

Friday 30th 6:30pm
St Andrews tasting at Cornelius
Cornelius Beer and Wine, 18-20 Easter Road
Cornelius website / St Andrews Brewing Twitter

Rather neatly, the other event this week is also a beer tasting in a bottle shop. Bob Phaff has been going great guns in his St Andrews brewery in Glenrothes recently, and since establishing himself in Fife has been upping the ante seemingly every month. On Friday, you can head along to Cornelius and catch up with his latest beer range – the 54:46 single hop beers (Citra, Simcoe, Bramling Cross and Pacific Gem), whilst chatting to Bob himself and finding out what he’s up to next.

The Edinburgh Beer Weekly will be published every Sunday here on the BeerCast. If you have an event in or around the city that you’d like to feature – please get in touch at the usual email address. Cheers!
