So – what’s happening in the Edinburgh beer scene over the next seven days?

Monday 22nd 8:00pm
US Craft; Old World Styles at Appellation
Appellation Wines, 43 Dalry Road
Appellation Wines website tickets £10

This week’s Appellation Wines tasting swings back to the Dalry branch, and is a ‘style-off’ – American versus European, on old world styles. Plenty of UK breweries are influenced by the big, bold hoppy American styles – but how often does it swing the other way? Ash and the team will be sampling a selection of US Craft beer brewed to honour European styles, and directly comparing against the Old Worlde counterparts.

Monday 22nd
Stewart Brewing takeover at Doctor’s [to Sunday 28th]
Doctors Bar, 32 Forrest Rd
Taylor Walker website

Doctor’s on Forrest Road has long been a supporter of Loanhead’s Stewart Brewing, and this coming week they are turning over their taps to the newly-expanded brewery for seven days. Alongside the permanent casks in Doctor’s, extra beers on offer for the week will include their ‘Summer selection’ – Solas, Ka Pai, Summer Backbeat, Edinburgh Gold Belgique and Malarkey. There will also be a rare cask of Coffee No3 on offer, and on Thursday the 25th there’ll be a Meet the Brewer event with samples and chat, so head down and find out how the expansion is going.

Wednesday 24th
The Bow Bar Summer Beer Festival [to Sunday 4th August]
The Bow Bar, 80 West Bow
Beer List PtI, Beer List PtII

Unless you’ve been under a rock for the last few weeks, you’ll know that Summer is very definitely here; so just in time this week sees one of Edinburgh’s great beery traditions kick off – the Bow Bar’s Summer Beer Festival. Running for over ten days, a mix of English and Scottish cask will be dispensed, alongside some fantastic kegged beer from over the world. Check out the two Tweets listed above for the full beer list, and follow the Bow to find out what’s on the taps when. Also on Wednesday, chances are you might find the Natural Selection Brewing Team in the Bow, running a beer and cheese evening. Two for the price of one!

Saturday 27th
Archerfield Summer Beer Festival [to Sunday 28th]
Archerfield Walled Garden, Dirleton
Archerfield website / Further Details

Also starting this coming week, another Summer Beer Festival – this time out at Dirleton, on the way to North Berwick. The Archerfield Walled Garden is home to Knops Beer Co, and over the weekend they will be putting on a spread of beer, food and live music. It’s a great place to spend an afternoon, and will the extra attractions, if the sun continues to shine should be hugely popular.

Sunday 28th [2:00pm]
BBQ and beers at Heriot-Watt (Natural Selection Brewing)
Heriot-Watt University
Natural Selection Brewing website

The third beer in the annual Natural Selection Brewing programme was released last week – Origin, a rye saison. The four-strong team are blitzing through a series of events in the city at the moment – check their website for details – but on Sunday they are bringing the beer home, with a barbecue afternoon at Heriot-Watt itself. Head along to catch up with the team and bag a sausage or two…

The Edinburgh Beer Weekly will be published every Sunday here on the BeerCast. If you have an event in or around the city that you’d like to feature – please get in touch at the usual email address. Cheers!
