Continuing from last week, Monday kicks off the beery week with the ongoing Cloisters Bar Summer beer festival. Plenty of the 70 cask ales will still be on, dispensed from the famous handpulls of the Tollcross drinking institution. The full beer list is here, on our preview, but for what’s on for each specific day, be sure and follow the Cloisters twitter feed (link above).

Monday 17th 8:00pm
BrewDog tasting at Appellation Wines
Appellation Wines, 43 Dalry Road
Appellation Wines website tickets £10

The Appellation Wines tasting for this week is at the Dalry branch, and features a semi-recurring guest – BrewDog’s sales manager Jonny. Head along for half a dozen on their beers, as the ever-insightful Jonny guides you through the DogSpeak and helps you discover what the beers actually taste like.

Thursday 20th [to Sunday 23rd]

Allendale Brewery website / Twitter feed

Starting this Thursday (and continuing all weekend) – the Guildford Arms will be featuring beers from the latest in a string of Northumberland producers to hit their taps – Ashington’s Gundog brewery. On the bar – Mallard, Whippet, Golden Cocker and Suarez. The beers will all be on at £2.50 a pint, so might go pretty quickly…

Saturday 22nd
Great Heck Tap Takeover
Cloisters Bar, 26 Brougham St
Great Heck Twitter feed

Saturday sees the aforementioned Cloisters festival draw to a close; but it goes out with a bang as Denzil Vallance arrives in town for a tap takeover. Great Heck’s ‘Supreme Overlord’ will be presenting nine of his creations at once; [deep breath] Amish Mash, Citra, Five, Golden Bull, Porter, Powermouse, Treason Stout, Treasure IPA and Yakima IPA. Get down to Cloisters on Saturday night to meet the man himself, and sample one, two, or all nine of his beers.

The Edinburgh Beer Weekly will be published every Sunday here on the BeerCast. If you have an event in or around the city that you’d like to feature – please get in touch at the usual email address. Cheers!
