So – what’s happening in the Edinburgh beer scene over the next seven days?

Monday 20th 8:00pm
International Pales at Appellation Wines
Appellation Wines, 43 Dalry Road
Appellation Wines website tickets £10

The weekly style tasting series at Appellation moves to the original Dalry location this week, and looks at International Pale Ales. Pitting the hop-forward APA’s against the soft, wheaty Belgian Pales, this tasting is sure to be interesting. Six very different examples, all light in colour rather than flavour. Tickets are £10 from the shop or on the night.

Wednesday 22nd
Meet the Brewer – Knops Beer Co
Red Squirrel, 21 Lothian Road
Knops Beer website / Red Squirrel website

This week’s Meet the Brewer event (there is, on average, at least one every seven days) takes place at Lothian Road’s Red Squirrel, and features the most charming man in beer – Rob Knops. Since moving to East Lothian, the ex-Mikkeller of Morningside has finally got that enormous shiny brewkit he’s always dreamed of – so head down to the Squirrel to find out what he’s up to…

Friday 24th [to Saturday 25th]
1st annual Summerhall beer festival
1 Summerhall
Further information / Barney’s Beer on Twitter Tickets £5/£8 online (see below)

This coming weekend, the first Summer(beer)hall event takes place, as the arts venue that encompasses Barney’s Brewery hosts a beer festival. With a huge outdoor drinking area, let’s hope the sun shines, as plenty of beers will be on offer. From the home stable (literally), Barney will be producing two new beers – a NZ-hopped Volcano IPA and a brand new porter. Also on offer, beers from Inveralmond, Tryst, Williams Brothers, Bristol Beer Factory, Dark Star, Hacker-Pschorr, Oakham, Maisel’s, Flying Dog, Sierra Nevada and Anchor, in keg, cask and bottle. Food and live music will also be available. The festival opens 6:30pm-11pm Friday (£8) and twice on Saturday – 12pm-4pm (£5) and 7pm-12am (£8).

Friday 24th [to Sunday 26th]
Sheep Heid Inn Beer and Music Festival
45 The Causeway, Duddingston
More details / Twitter feed

Beer and music lovers are in for a treat this weekend, as taking place alongside the Summerhall festival (and not a million miles away) is another, similar, event at the Sheep Heid in Duddingston. Live music will be on hand during Friday night and all day Saturday, alongside cask ales throughout the weekend. So don’t miss a chance to combine two – a mere twenty-minute stroll to walk off the beers and food is probably a good idea, getting from one to the other.

The Edinburgh Beer Weekly will be published every Sunday here on the BeerCast. If you have an event in or around the city that you’d like to feature – please get in touch at the usual email address. Cheers!
