So – what’s happening in the Edinburgh beer scene over the next seven days?

Monday 22nd 8:00pm
Imperials at Appellation
Appellation Wines, 43 Dalry Road
Appellation Wines website tickets £10

Start the week off with a bang at Appellation Wines (Dalry) as Ash and the team guide you through the punchy world of Imperial beers. Pretty much any beer style can be made stronger and prefixed by the term – IPA’s, stouts, porters; even pilsners and saisons. Taste your way through a range of these knee-tremblers on Monday and discover if big really is better. Will Ash be dancing on the counter by the end of the night? Who can say…?

Wednesday 24th
Meet the Brewer – Arbor
The Hanging Bat, 133 Lothian Rd
Further Information tickets £20

Another month, another eye-watering array of beers at the Hanging Bat’s latest MtB event. These evenings are effectively tap takeovers as well – and on Wednesday, Arbor Ales arrive in town and take over the entire bar, sweeping the board. Arbor’s beers aren’t often seen in Scotland, so get a true idea of what they are about by working your way through twenty of them over the course of the night. Check the link above for some of the beers on offer, and to claim the last remaining tickets that are, amazingly, still available. I think I’ll start with the oyster stout (then move though the nineteen others)…

Thursday 25th
The Great Edinburgh Science Experiment
The Counting House (above the Pear Tree), West Nicholson St
Further Information tickets £12.50 (0131 667 7533 or info@counting-house.co.uk)

The Thirty Days of IPA promotion is getting near the business end, but until then, the events are continuing apace. On Thursday, the results of an interesting maritime experiment will be revealed at the Counting House (the function room above the Pear Tree). Ticket-holders will receive six halves of IPA, three of which have been brewed to 18th Century recipes. The other three will be the same beers, only from containers that have been on board a ship for two months. Will you be able to tell the difference? Does being at sea make a difference to IPA? There’s only one way to find out!

Thursday 25th
ANZAC day at the Bow Bar
The Bow Bar, 80 West Bow
Further Information

Thursday is also ANZAC Day – when Australians, New Zealanders and people of the Pacific Islands remember their veterans. Edinburgh’s Elixir Brewing Company were co-founded by an Australian, and to commemorate this special annual occasion they have created ANZAC, a 7.6% Aus/Kiwi-hopped beer also brewed with rolled oats, golden syrup and coconut. Launched on the day of the same name, the recipe emulates ANZAC biscuits, commonly sent from home to the soldiers in the trenches. Donations will also be accepted on the night for Help the Heroes.

The Edinburgh Beer Weekly will be published every Sunday here on the BeerCast. If you have an event in or around the city that you’d like to feature – please get in touch at the usual email address. Cheers!
