Welcome to the latest Edinburgh Beer Weekly! Every Sunday we’ll be posting a preview of all the beery happenings in the city for the next seven days – so you won’t miss a thing. This week’s Appellation tasting revolves around the majesty of Belgian beer. Oft-recognised as the best brewing nation in Europe (not least by the Belgians themselves), beer from the divided provinces is a must-try for those starting to appreciate our favourite drink, and those who already know how good it can be. Head down to Appellation on Monday and top up your Belgian knowledge.

Slow Supper:Beer

Also on Monday, Slow Food Edinburgh are holding an evening devoted to food and beer, hosted by the Edinburgh Larder Bistro. On the menu, appetising dishes such as ‘Potted Peelham Farm mutton ham with warm beremeal bannocks and piccalilli’ – and at the same time, John Henderson from the Scottish Border Brewery will be on hand to talk about his philosophy of brewing. Also present, Pete Sherry from the BeerHive, who will be chatting about why beer is just so damn delicious. The ticket price gets you a main course and beer or wine of your choice. Meet the Brewer – Stewart Brewing

On Wednesday, Stockbridge is the place to be, as Hector’s Bar are hosting a tutored tasting of a wide range of Stewart Brewing’s beers. Led by head brewer Iain Couper, the beers on will be Black IPA, Copper Cascade, 80/-, Forth Mist plus the brand new Ka Pai IPA and Stewart’s 8 in bottles. As their new brewery takes shape, get along to Hector’s and find out what the latest is whilst sampling some of the best beers Stewart’s produce.

Beer and food matching at Ryan’s

30 days of IPA Tickets £25

Stewart Brewing are pretty busy this week, as the next evening they’ll be holding a beer and food matching event, hosted by Ryan’s Bar. As part of the 30 Days of IPA, the ticket price includes four courses, each matched with one of Stewart’s beers – Pentland IPA, Hefeweizen, Ka Pai and Cauld Reekie. Brewer Steven Anderson will be on hand to answer questions about the beers.



Thursday 11th [to 28th April]
New Brew beer festival

Starting on Thursday, a major city-wide beer festival kicks off, dedicated to new beers. Hosted by the DM Stewart pubs, there’ll be a fairly staggering 190 different ales on offer, from over 50 breweries – many of which haven’t been seen in Edinburgh before. We’ll upload the full beer list once it arrives, but keep the eyes peeled and get ready for spending a lot of time in the Guildford Arms, Abbotsford, Cumberland, and Canon’s Gait)…
