So – what’s happening in the Edinburgh beer scene over the next seven days?

Monday 8th 8:00pm
Pale Ales and IPA’s at Appellation
Appellation Wines, 43 Dalry Road
Appellation Wines website, tickets £7

Head down to Appellation Wines on Monday night for the latest in their series of tastings – which this time revolves around the Pale Ale, and it’s all-conquering cousin, the IPA. Find out why those three letters make modern beer fans go giddy at the knees, and compare the different flavours in UK and US versions. It’s all about the hops.

Tuesday 9th 8:00pm
Elixir Brewing Company launch Benedictine Groove
The Stockbridge Tap, 2-6 Raeburn Place
Twitter feed / Website

Scotland’s latest brewery will be unveiling their debut beer on Tuesday, at the Stockbridge Tap. The brainchild of a pub manager and an enthusiastic home-brewer, Elixir Brewing Co are blasting out of the traps with their first beer, Benedictine Groove – a Scotch Ale with smoked malt and some other, very unusual ingredients. Look out for our feature on Elixir at the end of the week – and if you’re heading down on Tuesday, get there early as Archie only has a single pin of the beer – it’ll go quickly!

Saturday 13th [to Sunday 21st]
Bow Bar Oktoberfest
The Bow Bar, 80 West Bow
Beer List / Twitter feed

Every discerning drinker in Edinburgh is extremely familiar with the Bow Bar – and therefore probably also familiar with their regular festivals. Following the success of their Summer beer festival, this Saturday attention switches to the Bow’s Oktoberfest lineup – a full range of cask, keg and bottled German beer (and UK breweries with their Teutonic offerings). It’s going to be very special, for all lovers of German beer. Look out for our full preview, also coming up later this week.

The Edinburgh Beer Weekly will be published every Sunday here on the BeerCast. If you have an event in or around the city that you’d like to feature – please get in touch at the usual email address. Cheers!
