So – what’s happening in the Edinburgh beer scene over the next seven days?

Monday 1st [to Sunday 14th]
Doctors Beer Festival
Doctors Bar, 32 Forrest Rd
Taylor Walker website

This week’s beery activities begin today at Doctors Bar on Forrest Road, as they launch into a two-week beer festival. Head down to the top of the Meadows for over thirty different guest ales, alongside the regulars from Stewart Brewing. Two-thirds of the festival imports haven’t been seen on the bar at Doctors before, so they are sure to go quickly!

Thursday 4th [to Sunday 7th]
Esptoberfest
The Espy, 62 Bath St

On Thursday, the drinkers of Porty are in for a treat, as the Espy’s Esptoberfest begins. Promising ‘a new kind of festival for a new generation of ale drinkers’, the event runs for four days, and culminates in a spectacular seafront fireworks display over Portobello. Or, instead, several more pints of cask ale sampled whilst looking out to sea. Either way, it should be a great few days drinking at the coast.

Friday 5th, Saturday 6th
Bo’ness Real Ale Festival
Bo’ness town hall, Glebe Park
Further details tickets £5, beer tokens £1.25

This weekend, about twenty miles outside Edinburgh, the Bo’ness Real Ale Appreciation Society (BRAAS) hosts their annual beer festival. Having been founded in 2001, the event has gone from strength to strength over the years – and this time around, boasts a beer list featuring many of central Scotland’s best breweries. Amongst them, Bo’ness’s own brewpub – the Kinneil Brew Hoose, who will have at least three of their beers on offer.

Friday 5th, Saturday 6th
Dunfermline Charity Beer Festival
Glen Pavilion, Coal Rd
Further details tickets £8

A bit further out of town – across the water in Fife, no less – there’s another beer festival going on this weekend. The Dunfermline Charity Beer Festival is in its ninth year, and is organised by the local rugby club and Round Table. The festival kicks off at 5pm on Friday, and runs through to late on Saturday, benefitting a number of good causes along the way. At least sixty different cask beers will be on offer.

The Edinburgh Beer Weekly will be published every Sunday here on the BeerCast. If you have an event in or around the city that you’d like to feature – please get in touch at the usual email address. Many thanks to Pat Hanson and Adam Shafi for the tips. Cheers!
