The Great Edinburgh Pub Quiz
Everyone loves a pub quiz, don’t they? I remember back in the day, the young, fresh-faced BeerCasters used to head down to Edinburgh’s Baillie or Antiquary pub quizzes, run by the legendary quizmaster – who flitted between the two, clad in a cape (no, really), as he still does. We never did very well, other than the first couple of rounds when it looked as if this week might be the one. But it never was – by the end, the highlight had long passed, which was choosing our team name based on Viz’s Profanosaurus.*
Well, in a couple of months we’ll be dusting off the big book of smut and heading off to a pub quiz once again – and we urge you to join us. On the 16th of October, the Great Edinburgh Pub Quiz takes place across the city – with all money raised going to the NSPCC. The charity are urging all local pubs to take part – and we will be too – managers and landlords, please follow the link at the end of this post to find out all the information needed.
Everything is provided by the NSPCC, other than someone to read out the questions (which will be the same for every pub taking part). Teams are four people, with each person paying a £4 donation to the charity. After the quiz ends, the tally sheets will be compiled, and the NSPCC will announce Edinburgh’s brainiest pub – with a prize awarded. In all likelihood, that won’t be the one we’re at – unless there’s a round on beer. And 80’s films. Or crisps, of course…
To get your pub involved, email scotlandevents@nspcc.org.uk or call 0844 8920212 to register. Further details on the Great Edinburgh Pub Quiz are here.
* Fondly-remembered team names included the Jazz Eggs, Elvis’s Leg and the Jester’s Shoes. I can only apologise at mentioning this in a blog post involving a charity.
