So – what’s happening in the Edinburgh beer scene over the next seven days?



Monday 20th [to 25th August]
Guildford Blues Festival

Edinburgh is undoubtedly the festival city – and For the next few days, the Guildford Arms joins in the fun with their annual blues festival – now in it’s 14th year. As with the Jazz festival last week, live music will be taking place daily, together with plenty of beer from sponsors the Caledonian Brewery served on their ten real ale fonts.

Also to begin the week, Innis & Gunn are holding a food matching event at their Potterrow pop-up bar. Hosted by Glasgow Herald drinks writer Tom Bruce-Gardyne, the evening will feature beers from Innis & Gunn, Williams Brothers and Stewart Brewing, paired with foods including Macsween’s haggis and cheese from Mellis. Edinburgh-based fans of Innis & Gunn and Williams Bros are in for a treat to begin this week, as following on from the beer and food pairing on Monday, the next day sees a tasting event at the Bon Vivant’s Companion on Thistle Street. Fyne Ales will also be involved, so head down for some great beer and a chat to the people behind the magic – tickets are available from the link above, or in the shop itself.

Houses – Candid Collective

The festival is still in full swing, and on Wednesday this week the worlds of beer and art collide at the Old Ambulance Depot behind Elm Row. Candid Collective are exhibiting Houses – a combination of film, installation and sculpture, deconstructing everyday spaces via the work of several up and coming UK artists. The event runs from the 23rd of August to the 2nd of September – but this Wednesday the opening preview night is sponsored by Harviestoun. Question the relationship between humans and structures with a Bitter & Twisted…
