So – what’s happening in the Edinburgh beer scene over the next seven days?

Monday 16th 8:00pm
Summer Beers at Appellation
Appellation Wines, 43 Dalry Road
Appellation Wines website, tickets £7

The latest tasting at Appellation Wines on Dalry Road focuses on Summer Beers – so for this particular summer, expect imperial stouts and barley wines. Chances are though, Ash will be running through some zesty, hoppy numbers more typically suited to the season. Either way – it’s beer, so head along and find out what you should be drinking when the yellow ball of fire finally appears.

Wednesday 18th
Harviestoun Wild Hop IPA Tasting
The BeerHive, 24 Rodney Street
Thursday 19th
Henderson’s, 94 Hanover Street
Saturday 21st
Cornelius, 18 Easter Rd
Harviestoun website

This week, Harviestoun are continuing their series of events related to their new Wild Hop IPA (wild as in ‘crazy’, not hedgerow). On Wednesday there will be free tasters available all day at the Beerhive down in Cannonmills, Thursday the WH IPA will be on offer at Henderson’s deli on Hanover Street, and on Saturday between 4-6pm a few of their range of beers will be available for tasting at Cornelius Beer & Wine on Easter Road.

Thursday 19th [to Sunday 29th]
Summer Beer Festival
The Bow Bar, 80 West Bow
Twitter feed

One of the beery highlights of the year rolls round again this week – the Bow Bar Summer beer festival. From Thursday there’ll be ten days of fantastic real ale pouring from their Aitken founts, featuring beers from Fyne Ales, Alechemy, Tempest amongst others (plus Harviestoun Wild Hop IPA – so there’s really no excuse not to try that this week). Alongside the Scottish beers will be offerings from England and a few great keg beers – including the 10% Brodies Simcoe for Breakfast.

Thursday 19th
Evolution vs Revolution
The Southern Bar, 22 South Clerk St
Summer Wine website

On Thursday, the Southern Bar is playing host to a brewery head-to-head, as old punks are challenged by the new punks of the block. Beers will be on from both BrewDog and Yorkshire’s Summer Wine Brewery – who many people see as nipping at the heels of the hop-forward pioneers. Have BD lost their touch? Can SW match them? Head to the Southern and try for yourself, as their beers of the same style go up against each other.

The Edinburgh Beer Weekly will be published every Sunday here on the BeerCast. If you have an event in or around the city that you’d like to feature – please get in touch at the usual email address. Cheers!
