So – what’s happening in the Edinburgh beer scene over the next seven days?
Monday 25th 8:00pm
Bottle Conditioned Tasting
Appellation Wines, 43 Dalry Road
Appellation Wines website, tickets £7
Following on from the previous tasting at Appellation Wines (about the mighty microbe), the next in the series focuses on how yeast continues the magic after packaging. Head down on Monday and revel in the company of Ashton McCobb – a man who knows his way around micro-organisms – and taste several bottle-conditioned beers. Learn how the wonders of yeast keep on happening, right up until you take a mouthful.
Thursday 28th 12:00pm
Scottish Real Ale Festival
Edinburgh Corn Exchange, 10 New Market Road
SRAF website, tickets £5 (CAMRA members £3)
The last week of June can only mean the Scottish Real Ale Festival is here again. This year, the festival takes place out at the Corn Exchange – hop on a bus for 186 different real ales served over three days (the doors open at noon on Thursday). Entry is only a fiver, and holding on to your glass grants you free entry on the other days. Of course, we’ll be there most of the time, check out our preview – and if you see a BeerCast tshirt on the day, come and say hello.
Friday 29th
Alternative Beer Fest
BrewDog Edinburgh, 112 Cowgate
As last year, for the duration of the SRAF there’ll be an alternative festival at BrewDog Edinburgh. From Friday until Sunday night, brave the masses in the Cowgate for a UK tap takeover. Featured breweries are confirmed to include Magic Rock, Summer Wine, Lovibonds, Tempest, Brodies, Redchurch and the Kernel – some of the very best British keg producers. Also, fans of BrewDog’s Abstrakt series will want to gather on Saturday, as at 5pm AB:10 will be released – an imperial brown ale aged in malaga wine barrels.
The Edinburgh Beer Weekly will be published every Sunday here on the BeerCast. If you have an event in or around the city that you’d like to feature – please get in touch at the usual email address. Cheers!
