So – what’s happening in the Edinburgh beer scene over the next seven days?

Monday 18th 6:00pm
Beer and Curry night
Ignite Restaurant, 272 Morrison St
Event details, tickets £30

Curry lovers are in for a treat over the next few days – following on from the weekend’s Currie beer and curry festival, on Monday the Ignite restaurant hosts a pairing event of their own. Rather than corporate lager, however, several beers from Harviestoun will be on offer to pair with the creations of the kitchen. Head down to Morrison Street to see how well Bitter and Twisted works with a lamb Pathia. The event is for charity, raising much-needed funds for children’s charity CHAS.

Tuesday 19th 6:30pm – 8:30pm
Beer and Food matching
New Town Cooking School, 7 Queen St
ENTCS course details, tickets £35

As well as tap takeovers, food matching events regularly feature on the Edinburgh Beer Weekly. After filling up with curry the previous night, on Tuesday make your way to the New Town Cooking School for a beer and food pairing evening. Hosted by Tom Bruce Gardyne of the Glasgow Herald, classic Scottish foodstuffs such as haggis and hot-smoked salmon will be tasted alongside beer from Williams Brothers, Harviestoun and Innis & Gunn.

Tuesday 19th
Durham and Redchurch event
Holyrood 9A, Holyrood Rd
Event details

The excellent Holyrood 9A has been churning out events like clockwork recently – and this week is no exception. On Tuesday, a one-night stand of English beer arrives in the shape of London brewery Redchurch, and north-east producers Durham Brewery. On keg – for the first time in Scotland – the former’s IPA, Bethnal Pale and Shoreditch Blonde. On cask – the latter’s Magnus, White Stout and Redemption (which clocks in at 10%). Both breweries are highly recommended – it should be another great event at the Holyrood.

Saturday 23rd
Leith Dragon Boat Challenge
Ocean Terminal, Leith Docks
Leith Rotary Dragon Boat website

Harviestoun are involved with three out of the four events in town this week – kudos to the guys from Alva for getting involved. On Saturday, they also stand a good chance of getting wet as they’ve entered a team into the annual Leith Dragon Boat race. Once again, it’s all in aid of the kids, as their boat is raising money for CHAS. Another of the crews at the event will apparently be Diageo – just imagine the potential headlines if BrewDog had been there as well. Harviestoun will probably have some of their beer on offer, too.

The Edinburgh Beer Weekly will be published every Sunday here on the BeerCast. If you have an event in or around the city that you’d like to feature – please get in touch at the usual email address. Cheers!
