FyneFest 2012 preview
So, any plans for the weekend? Fancy sitting in a sunny field* enjoying some of the best beers in Britain? If the answers to those questions are ‘Nothing’ and ‘Why, yes!’, then you’re in luck, thirsty blog reader. It’s FyneFest time again, as large crowds of tent-toting drinkers descend (or ascend, mostly) on Fyne Ales’ Argyll site and proceed to drain the place in two days.
Last year, the weather was unfortunately pretty poor – but the recent spell of blazing sunshine has given the fest-goers some hope of being able to relax outside. If not, the giant marquee will be there again – with live music and plenty of food. Of course, it’s the beer that gets the attention, and once again Fyne Ales have assembled a list worthy of any number of beer festivals up and down the UK.
Guest ales from (amongst others) Thornbridge, Dark Star, Magic Rock, Moor, Bristol Beer Factory, Buxton, Acorn and Marble will be served over the weekend. Is there a better drinking lineup than that this weekend? Plenty of modern British summertime classics are on the list – such as Hawkshead Windermere Pale, Dark Star Hophead and Bristol Beer Factory Acer (not forgetting Fyne Ales Avalanche).
Beefier offerings include Buxton Wild Boar (5.7%), Moor Old Freddy Walker (7.3%) and Arbor Ales’ brand new Albion, which is apparently a 6.5% rum-based IPA. In all, 38 guest beers and thirteen from Fyne Ales will be served through a whopping 40 handpulls – the scale of the festival increases every year, which is surely a good sign.
As for those thirteen home beers – there will be 10 casks of Jarl ready and waiting alongside most of their regulars. New beers from the other side of the farm include Fyne’s latest IPA project Lismore Red and Blonde, a new blonde session beer (Rune) and a tongue-busting double IPA (Superior). How does that sound? Beer festivals are the new music festivals – get yourself a ticket and head along for the best drinking weekend in Scotland.
FyneFest tickets are available from the official website – the event begins on Friday the 1st at 7:30pm with a comedy night, before running all day Saturday and Sunday. Tickets can still be reserved over the phone, and picked up on arrival. If you do come, and see two large greyhounds, the BeerCasters will be nearby – so come and say hello.
* Disclaimer – field may not actually be sunny

May 31, 2012Wow – that is some impressive beer list. Really looking forward to this now. The AleselA contingent will pitch up on Saturday afternoon. When you say “greyhounds” I’m assuming you mean the four-legged variety and not buses? We’ll be sure to say hello. :0)

May 31, 2012As much as I’d love a BeerCast airstream trailer to cruise to festivals in, I do mean the rabbit-chasing variety of greyhound, yes. Should be a great weekend!

June 1, 2012The greyhounds are actually mine – so please come and say hello! They are very friendly, although not so keen on beer, Carlos is more of a sherry man…
